1. Banana Leaf Spot

Banana leaf spot also known as Sigatoka and caused by the fungus Cercospora musae, it occurs throughout the world and is one of the most destructive diseases of banana. It causes losses by reducing the functional leaf surface of the plant, which results in small, unevenly ripened bananas that fail to ripen and may fall.

Symptoms:

The disease first appears as small, light yellow spots parallel to the side veins of leaves. A few days later, the spots become enlarge in size and turn brown with light gray centers. Such spots soon enlarge further, the tissue around them turns yellow and dies, and adjacent spots coalesce to form large, dead areas on the leaf. Rapid drying and defoliation of mature leaves are the characteristic feature of this disease.

CHICO has accumulated rich experience and could offer the corresponding high-class solutions, e.g.: CALIBUR 20%SC.

2. Banana Freckle Disease

Short distance spread of banana freckle occurs as fungal spores are dispersed from infected banana plants and debris by rain splash and wind-blown rain. Moisture is essential for spore dispersal. Long distance spread occurs through the movement of infected fruit and infected leaves.

Symptoms:

Fungal infection and disease symptoms can occur on both young and old leaves. Two types of leaf spot symptoms have been described.

One type of leaf spot consists of very small (less than 1 mm) dark brown to black spots mainly on the upper surface of the leaf giving the leaf a sooty appearance. Spores develop from these spots and protrude slightly making the surface of the leaf feel rough.

The second type of spotting is characterised by larger (up to 4 mm in diameter) individual dark brown to black spots. These spots may have grey centres and can aggregate to form large blackened areas or streaks with yellowish green haloes.

CHICO has accumulated rich experience and could offer the corresponding high-class solutions, e.g.: DIPMA 28%SC.

3. Banana Bunchy Top

Banana Bunchy Top is the most serious virus disease of bananas and plantains. It occurs in Africa, Asia, Australia and South Pacific islands. The virus is transmitted in a persistent, circulative, non-propagative manner by the banana aphid, Pentalonia nigronervosa, which has worldwide distribution. The virus is also spread through infected planting material. All banana cultivars are thought to be susceptible, with no known sources of resistance.

Symptoms:

The typical symptoms of bunchy top of banana are very distinctive and readily distinguished from those caused by other viruses of banana. Infected plants exhibit a rosetted or "bunchy top" appearance. Once infected, plants do not recover.

CHICO has accumulated rich experience and could offer the corresponding high-class solutions, e.g.: CYMA 60%WDG.

Banana Pest Control

1. Banana Flea Bettle

Banana flea beetle is a common pest that often affects the appearance and quality of banana fruit, reducing its commercial value.

Symptoms:

The larvae primarily dwell in the soil and leaf litter surrounding the plant crop, and the adults do the damage to banana. The adult beetle is nocturnal and feeds primarily on leaf and interveinal tissue.

Solution

CHICO has accumulated rich experience and could offer the corresponding high-class solutions, e.g.: NIPPY 60%WDG.

2. Banana Weevil

Adult weevil is about ½ inch long with hard shell and small snout protruding from their heads. Female lays eggs in holes at the base of the plant. Weevil does damage by burrow and tunnel into the plant roots and stems.

Symptoms:

In severely damaged banana gardens, there are many dead leaves and less fruit. The severely damaged stems rot and eventually die, or the stalks cannot be pulled out.

CHICO has accumulated rich experience and could offer the corresponding high-class solutions, e.g.: OPTIMA 15%SC.
